It’s Aloha Friday…No Work ‘Till Monday!

It’s been a while since I had an Aloha Friday post, so I thought it would be appropriate to post a video of this year’s Merrie Monarch overall winners, the kane from halau Kawaili’ula under the direction of Kumu Hula Chinky Mahoe.

These talented guys won the top spot for both kane kahiko and auana. They also beat all other halau including the wahine groups to capture the overall title.

Here is their kahiko performance of ancient, warrior style hula (click here if you can’t watch the embedded video). First, it’s fairly rare to see a kane group do a hula noho or sitting style of hula in competition. Also, it’s extra unusual to see them play the puniu (knee drum). In fact, this is the first time that I saw a kane group perform with the puniu. Lastly, their precision is incredible! They are totally in sync; it’s pretty amazing!

One of my other favorites this year was the kane from The Academy of Hawaiian Arts in Oakland, CA. Click here to watch their inventive hula kahiko.

I guess my TARDIS would be a montage of the things i’ve been seeing on the internet. I imagine the TARDIS to have different rooms with different seasons so the Doctor’s human companion wouldn’t be too homesick.

Although, I could imagine the different impossible rooms that there could be.

I imagine the Doctor to have a room where it’s just nature. Where Rory and Amy could sometimes visit to feel outdoors-y. Glass tents like these:

but at nighttime, the sky in the room changes into projections of so many stars and galaxies

and sometimes the Doctor would count with his companions.

He would have movie nights with them and watch and enjoy the things made by humans. They’d have hundreds of fireflies roaming about to serve as their light. He’d have different plants from different planets. Although he’d have a special rose garden that Rose once helped in tending.

Although he’d also have a winter room, for when he feels lonely and cold. When he wants to be alone, he would contemplate here.

Although I imagine the TARDIS to have a room just like this:

It would always stun his companions. He’d love it here as well.

I know it’s mostly human but I figured that he’d love to have small replicas of earth inside his Tardis. He’d have places to make his companions feel at home and warm.

Congratulations to the Maui wahine who took 1st and 2nd place at the Merrie Monarch’s Miss Aloha Hula competition last night! Here is the hula auana from the winner, Manalani Mili Hokoana English from Halau Na Lei Kaumaka O Uka, who brought the title back to Maui.
